Our Staff

Our staff are responsible for the ongoing operation, management and development of the ANCAP test, rating, communications and advocacy program.

We're a small, yet dedicated team – working to see the safest vehicles possible on Australian and New Zealand roads.

Carla Hoorweg

Chief Executive Officer

At ANCAP we work to encourage vehicle manufacturers to deliver the safest new cars possible. My role is about setting ANCAP's direction and ensuring the team has what they need to deliver on our strategy. Working with a small team of individuals so passionate about their roles is a huge motivator for me.

Technical

At ANCAP we get to see the developments, big and small, that vehicle manufacturers and their suppliers are building into modern cars and light commercials. Knowing that these improvements will save lives and reduce the awful human cost of road trauma is a great thing.

David Tidy

ANCAP has a proud history of helping bring the best in vehicle safety technology to Australasian consumers. After many years in vehicle development, I am proud to join the ANCAP team and contribute to the important work it does in making our roads safer.

Donal McGrane

Lead Engineer

I have worked in vehicle safety most of my working life - in biomedical engineering looking after spinal and head Injury rehabilitation, vehicle crash testing, vehicle certification and design, and now ANCAP. At ANCAP I look after vehicle testing, child restraint and Safety Assist system assessments, and preparation of vehicles safety ratings.

Sam Deylen

At ANCAP, we work to provide up to date information to the public on new vehicle safety. I'm incredibly lucky to be on the forefront of vehicle testing and assessment, helping to decipher the results so that we can create safer roads for all users.

Gary Aguiar

ANCAP complements regulation by encouraging vehicle manufacturers to surpass the minimum requirements set by the Australian Design Rules, and sharing vital safety information with consumers. I am proud to work for an organisation that has a direct impact on reducing road trauma.

Erfan Othman

Through its rigorous vehicle assessment and safety ratings, ANCAP plays a vital role in improving road safety and helping consumers make informed choices. It is a privilege to work alongside a passionate and dedicated team, knowing our efforts make a real difference in protecting all road users.

Policy

John Ryan

Director - Policy

As a driver, passenger, cyclist, and pedestrian, I know how important safer vehicles are for all road users. My role at ANCAP involves developing policies, building links with stakeholders, and working with government, the community, and industry to make vehicles safer.

As ANCAP’s Data & Insights Analyst, I am motivated by the opportunity to enhance vehicle safety and consumer protection through data-driven insights. This role presents an exciting chance to make a meaningful impact on public safety and advance the automotive industry.

Communications

Rhianne Robson

Director - Communications

The sharing of our rating and vehicle safety information with consumers, dealers, fleet operators and the media is just as important as the testing itself. That's my role at ANCAP. Having been born into a smash repair business owned by my parents, the construct of a safe car almost runs in my blood.

Kirstie Clarkson

Communications Manager

Beyond publishing safety ratings for new vehicles, ANCAP provides information to consumers on the benefits of purchasing or traveling in newer, safer vehicles. My role at ANCAP is to do this through a variety of communications activities.
