Five-star result for GWM Haval Jolion.

The GWM Haval Jolion has today been awarded the maximum five-star safety rating by ANCAP, Australasia’s independent voice on vehicle safety.

The GWM Haval Jolion was tested and assessed for its ability to physically protect occupants and other road users in a crash – through the suite of destructive crash tests – and its ability to prevent or minimise the severity of a crash with another vehicle, pedestrian or cyclist – through the range of active collision avoidance performance tests.

Destructive crash tests of the Jolion showed Good levels of protection offered to the driver in the full width frontal test and the oblique pole test. Adequate and Marginal results were recorded for the chest and legs of the driver in the frontal offset test. A Marginal result was also recorded for the chest of the rear passenger in the full width frontal test and pelvis of the driver in the side impact test, with all other critical body regions in these tests rated as Good.

The Jolion is equipped with a centre airbag to protect against occupant-to-occupant contact in side impacts, and it provided a Good level of protection to both front seat occupants. Whiplash protection for front and rear seat occupants also scored well, as did the protection offered to child occupants in the side impact test. The head of the six-year child dummy was assessed as Adequate in the frontal offset test, as was the chest of the 10-year child dummy. Neck protection for both child dummies in this test was assessed as Marginal.

Where the GWM Haval Jolion particularly impressed was in its active collision avoidance capability – achieving an overall Safety Assist score of 92 per cent.

The GWM Haval Jolion is capable of avoiding or mitigating the severity of a crash with another vehicle through its lane support (LSS) and autonomous emergency braking (AEB) functions. The Jolion achieved full marks for its LSS performance, and its ability to prevent a crash with an oncoming vehicle in turning-across-path scenarios. AEB car-to-car performance was also very good, with the Jolion detecting and preventing contact with another vehicle across the majority of test scenarios. Its ability to avoid a crash with pedestrians and cyclists was mixed.

“This five-star ANCAP safety rating for the Jolion is the third awarded to GWM under ANCAP’s stringent 2020-2022 protocols,” said ANCAP Chief Executive Officer, Carla Hoorweg.

“There has been a significant amount of interest in a rating for this model and it has been shown to offer a high standard of safety.”
