The VW Crafter has been tested as part of ANCAP’s Commercial Van Safety Comparison which assesses the fitment and performance of the active (collision avoidance) safety systems fitted to commercial vans.

The AEB system fitted to the VW Crafter lacks the more sophisticated elements of those vans that earned higher rankings - such as recognition of vulnerable road users (pedestrians and cyclists). Lane keep assist, lane departure warning and blind spot monitoring systems are available as optional. Performance of the VW Crafter's active safety systems was mixed.
